Morgenster Estate

Morgenster Estate has a long history dating back 300 years. Situated near the foothills of the Helderberg Mountain in Somerset West, they produce award-winning Bordeaux-styled wines, Italian cultivars and extra virgin olive oil.

Italian industrialist, the late Giulio Bertrand bought the ‘Morning Star’ estate in the early 1990’s to restore it, and produce world-class olive oil and wine.  Persuading Pierre Lurton of the famous Château Cheval Blanc to become his wine consultant was a masterstroke, providing early Bordeaux Right Bank direction with varieties like Merlot and Cabernet Franc.  Italian grapes varieties also proved irresistible, hence the creation of the ‘Italian Collection’.

Today the estate is in the care of the Bertrand family and led by Giulio’s daughters, Frederica and Alessandra.
