Greystone’s stunning full bodied Chardonnay is initially toasty with wild herb, cream and buttery undertones whilst ripe stonefruit flavours adds to the complexity. A lovely full-bodied chalky finish whilst finer citrus notes provide energy and flow to the lingering palate.
From the winemaker: “We hand pick our Chardonnay blocks separately before whole bunch pressing. We foot crush our B95 clone from clay soils to obtain phenolic presence. All lots were transferred into French Oak barriques (25% new) where they went through natural fermentation over several months and natural malo-lactic fermentation in mid Summer. The wine ages in barrel without racking for 11 months in oak before estate bottling without fining.”
95 Points – Bob Campbell (Master of Wine) “Quite a ripe, fleshy chardonnay with peach, stone fruit, wet stone, mineral, roasted nut and bran biscuit flavours. A smooth-textured wine with plenty of power and a lingering finish. Can be appreciated now but has development potential.”
96 Points – Cameron Douglas (Master Sommelier) “Complex, familiar and enticing bouquet of Chardonnay with a creamy textured bouquet of yellow fleshed fruits, vanilla, oak spices, yoghurt and wild flowers. Fabulous textures on the palate with lots of energy and freshness; medium+ acidity, minerality, spice and length. A wine to enjoy now and through 2024 or cellar.”
18.5/20 Raymond Chan “… Full-bodied, the palate has integrated ripe flavours of yellow stonefruits, citrus and tropical fruit and creamy oak with buttery notes. The fruit is fulsome and mouthfilling with breadth and roundness, the acidity ripe and soft. There is considerable alcoholic power and drive, and the wine carries positively to a solid, deep, sustained finish. This is a fulsome, mouthfilling Chardonnay with ripe yellow stonefruit and citrus fruit melded with creamy and nutty oak, and plenty of power.”
