This is really something. The subtlety, restraint, controlled citrus cream notes and utterly self-assured nose has everything from candied lemon and lime, hazelnut and vanilla essence to crushed rock and white petalled flowers. It is electric whilst at the same time, understated. The palate, though youthful, already exhibits sublime definition and poise. Rich with a taut mineral backbone, there is instant balance with honeyed, crystalline white peach and yellow plum flavours which vie with high quality oak and laser-like freshness. A finer Chardonnay from the New World you would be hard-pressed to find, indeed, this wine gives many a Meursault a run for its money – there is an assurance and confidence in the glass which instantly transports you to the Côte d’Or. This isn’t just Burgundian, it really could be Burgundy.
