Rolf Binder Heysen Shiraz is one of Australia’s greatest expressions of Shiraz, Heysen heralds from a single vineyard planted back in 1972. Full-bodied with plenty of ripe, seductive berry and spice flavours on the palate. An elegant Shiraz that benefits greatly from the small percentage (1-4% depending on the vintage) of Cabernet Sauvignon to add complexity and richness.
Typically matured in larger format, French puncheon barrels for a more restrained oak treatment, the Heysen is characterised by a velvety texture and more aromatic style. This wine is a classic Barossa Shiraz which will provide pleasure for many years to come.
Ageing potential: An excellent cellaring wine with typically 10-15 years ageing potential for optimal drinking.
95 points – GOLD. James Halliday Wine Companion 2020. “While all the parcels of a rich, ripe Barossa shiraz are strutting their stuff, they’ve come together well to create a balanced wine. Full-bodied, ripe, plump tannins and a freshness overall. Drink to 2034.”

string(832) "Also known as Syrah, Shiraz was the variety which introduced the world to the concentrated and masculine wines of 1990s’ Australia. Here in the Barossa Valley, Langhorne Creek, Clare Valley and McLaren Vale it produces wines of great density and richness. In South Africa there tends to be more structure and freshness with earthy tannins. It is a variety which alters in the bottle very much as a result of the individual winemaker’s philosophy, as well as reflecting the unique terroir of the estates. Great with oak, it offers lavender, kirsch, black cherry and cured meat aromas and flavours. In its native Northern Rhône it is famous for the wines of Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie, whilst in the New World can lay claim to providing Australia with its two most famous wines; Henschke’s Hill of Grace and Penfold’s Grange."
