2015 was a watershed vintage for Meerlust – the perfect conditions of 2015 has produced their best Merlot yet. Intense dark brambly fruit on the nose, mulberry, liquorice and damson plum with hints of dark chocolate and spice, tempered by a stony minerality. The medium-full bodied palate offers generous, ripe, pure Merlot fruit with refreshing acidity, structured yet silky tannins and pronounced length and minerality. There is a core of juiciness, opulence and richness typical of the variety, while the Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot lend greater complexity to the wine.
Ageing potential: Up to 12 years under ideal cellar conditions
Wine Safari Score: 92+/100 Greg Sherwood MW “Dark, broody, exotic nose of brûléed coffee beans, black currant, earthy black plum and sandalwood spice. Texturally this is spot on with fabulous freshness, textural elegance and sleek creamy sweet tannins. One of the finer single varietal Merlots produced in SA.”

string(366) "The variety which made Château Pétrus in Pomerol famous, however it can undoubtedly be considered an international variety which is almost as ubiquitous as Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot is a generous, plush and fruit forward variety which often acts as the foil in Cabernet led blends. As a single varietal it offers red stone fruit flavours and often a velvety core."
