Greystone Omihi Pinot Noir shows a nose of Black Doris plums and baking spices which leads to a bright palate of dark berry fruits and earthy truffles. The soft dry tannins are beautifully balanced with a long, flavourful finish.
92 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
4.5 Stars – Winestate Magazine Big bold aroma; almost a touch of exotic marshmallow and red liquorice with a lovely ripe doris plum and black cherry fruit character. Silky tannins, plenty of concentration but retains a degree of grace. Highly attractive Pinot Noir
93 Points – Bob Campbell (MW) Elegant, precise, poised Pinot N with bright cherry, red rose and subtle spice flavours. The wine has an appealing purity and balance. It’s not a blockbuster but it does have good power and intensity.
93 Points – Cameron Douglas (MS) Elegant and sophisticated bouquet of limestone like minerality, light red fruits and wild floral enticement. These ideas are repeated on the palate with the volume turned up on each – red apple skin, cherry, raspberry and rose. Fine tannins from both oak and fruit – dusty and chalky, plenty of acidity too leading to a fine lengthy finish. Very nice wine indeed. Drink from early 2019 through 2025.
94 Points – Sam Kim (Wine Orbit) The wine combines fabulous fruit purity with seductive complexity, displaying fragrant aromas of dark cherry, plum, smoked game, dark mushroom and black olive on the nose, leading to a beautifully weighted palate that is silky and flowing. The wine offers refinement and poise, while delivering loads of delectable flavours with a powerful finish. At its best: now to 2022.
Omihi Pinot Noir is named Nor’Wester Pinot Noir in New Zealand. Seldom sold outside NZ, and sold under the name used here: Omihi. To be clear, it is exactly the same wine as the Nor’Wester, merely under a different label.
