The hotly anticipated release of Kanonkop’s Paul Sauer 2016 has arrived in the UK. Following on from the success of the 2015 Paul Sauer, which became SA’s most sought-after red when Tim Atkin MW awarded it his first 100/100 score in the New World. We are excited to release the follow-up 2016 vintage. The 2016 Kanonkop Paul Sauer is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 15% Merlot. Complex and layered aromas of cassis, plums and sweet spice are further complimented by notes of tobacco, cedar wood and cigar box on the nose. The palate has a plush, juicy red and black fruit core with seamless, integrated tannins and a fine seam of acidity. Pin-point balance between the new oak and fruit results in a wine with grace and elegance and beautiful savoury notes on the finish. Although concentrated and powerful, it is softer and juicier than the structured 2015.
FOOD PAIRING: A great accompaniment to meat casseroles, steak, roasts and a selection of well-matured cheeses.
AGEING POTENTIAL: If stored correctly, this wine will mature gracefully for 20 – 25 years.

But by any standards, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 15% each of Merlot and Cabernet Franc is still one hell of a wine, even in a difficult year. Grippy, focused and slightly leaner than the 2015, but with savoury tannins and plenty of youthful fruit concentration. 2022-36”
