Donkiesbaai

Donkiesbaai, on the West Coast of South Africa, has been the holiday home of the Engelbrecht family for four generations. The West Coast of the Cape is a place that invigorates one’s soul and one’s understanding and appreciation of the simple things in life. For many it is a harsh, desert-like, unknown frontier, but for those who have experienced its energy and unspoilt natural beauty, it becomes a life-enriching place to be.

The grapes for these wines come from the unassuming region of Piekenierskloof, which lies about 80km inland from the coast. Unirrigated bush vines are planted in deep sandy soils. Elevated sites have a warm climate with cooling evening winds. The resulting wines offer complexity and finesse in an approachable style. These wine was made with the cuisine of the west coast in mind. Crayfish, Harders, and a cold glass of wine is part of the history that is Donkiesbaai.
