Paul Cluver Wines

Recognised as pioneers of wine in the area, the Paul Cluver estate is a family-owned, family-run wine business located in the cool-climate Elgin Valley, approximately 70km south-east of Cape Town. The property has been in ownership of the Cluver Family since 1896. Winemaker Andries Burger has a wonderful connection with the vineyards and his ability to coax the very best from the estate’s various aromatic grape varietals has helped to raise the profile of Elgin as well as the potential for South African wine as a whole. There is a shimmering “gently-gently” about the way Andries nurtures the vines. He also has an uncanny ability to give the modern wine drinker exactly what they want! Lower alcohol, delicate freshness, integrated tannins and true varietal terroir exist in every bottle of Cluver’s wonderful wines. Elegant and refined, these are modern day legends of South African wine. As a footnote, Cluver’s wine business forms part of larger holistic farming business called the De Rust Estate. In addition to the vineyards and cellar, there are apple and pear orchards, a Hereford stud and eco-tourism activities, including amphitheatre concerts, on the farm. This estate forms part of the UNESCO world heritage site, the Kogelberg Biosphere, with half of the estate set aside for conservation into perpetuity.
