Wooing Tree
The Wooing Tree is a local landmark that sits prominently in the middle of Steve and Thea Farquharson’s family vineyard situated in the heart of Central Otago. It has long been a place for locals to woo their lovers, and if it could talk, would have many a story to tell! In a vinous sense, the location gives a perfect mix of various sub-regional climates and optimum heat degree days. Originally from North Otago farming backgrounds, more latterly Steve and Thea enjoyed profitable IT careers in Wellington and overseas before creating the Wooing Tree vineyard. In the words of renowned wine critic Neal Martin; “Stephen and Thea Farquharson worked in IT before moving to Cromwell… They made a very good career move!” These are wines of outstanding class and pedigree. Year on year, as the vine age increases, so too do the Wooing Tree accolades, most recently, securing a Gold Medal in the 2015 IWC awards for their 2012 Pinot Noir.
