About this wine

Golden Amrita Estate Reserve Shiraz 2019 is deep in colour with rich, complex aromas of ripe mulberry and blackberry fruit that combine with cedar and spice notes. The palate is multi layered, with ripe dark fruit flavours, liquorice, sweet cedar and spice character in a rich, round and incredibly smooth palate. Firm ripe tannins give the wine a lingering finish and provide the backbone to a wine that will cellar well for the long term. A powerful, complex and harmonious expression of this special vineyard site.

The Golden Amrita Vineyard is in the highly prized Greenock sub-region of the Barossa Valley and is planted solely to Shiraz. The Estate Reserve is a special selection from vines at the bottom of this gently sloping vineyard. This lower area of vineyard has a deeper red soil over a layer of limestone that provides excellent drainage to the soil. These vines produce amazingly concentrated and powerfully flavoured Shiraz grapes ideal for the production of the Estate Reserve and are kept separate and fermented separately to the rest of the vineyard.

Alcohol: 15% ABV

string(832) "Also known as Syrah, Shiraz was the variety which introduced the world to the concentrated and masculine wines of 1990s’ Australia. Here in the Barossa Valley, Langhorne Creek, Clare Valley and McLaren Vale it produces wines of great density and richness. In South Africa there tends to be more structure and freshness with earthy tannins. It is a variety which alters in the bottle very much as a result of the individual winemaker’s philosophy, as well as reflecting the unique terroir of the estates. Great with oak, it offers lavender, kirsch, black cherry and cured meat aromas and flavours. In its native Northern Rhône it is famous for the wines of Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie, whilst in the New World can lay claim to providing Australia with its two most famous wines; Henschke’s Hill of Grace and Penfold’s Grange."
