Steenberg Five Lives expresses an intense dark red hue with a lighter, garnet red on the rim. The nose displays prominently with blackcurrant cassis and notes of fennel, prune and cinnamon. It is a medium to full-bodied wine, showing a silky texture and depth, as well as an elegant tannin structure. Flavours of smooth blackberry jam lead into star anise and ground spice. The mid palate has a juicy cherry compote fruit profile with the acidity tempering a slight richness. Merlot (62%) forms the backbone of this wine with clean, bright fruit which add subtle freshness. The Cabernet Sauvignon (22%) brings a formal, earnest profile to the blend and the Malbec (16%) rounds it all off with fruit weight.
Ageing potential: This wine is showing beautifully now and will reward cellaring for up to 5 years.
Alcohol: 14.77% ABV
The life of Catharina Ras, Steenberg’s remarkable founder, was one of adventure and zeal and can be imagined into a tale of FIVE chapters with each chapter offering Catharina a series of seemingly insurmountable challenges. These FIVE chapters illustrate the FIVE LIVES of Catharina and how she was able to harness her courage, adapt and be resilient through each new challenge and each new life. With Steenberg Five Lives Red Blend, Steenberg show admiration to Catharina’s life-long resilience and courage.
The FIVE chapters are narrated on a series of different back labels. Collect them all to discover the story.

string(589) "One of the most ubiquitous grape varieties in the world; Cabernet Sauvignon. Together with Pinot Noir it vies for the crown of greatest red variety in the world. So multifaceted and so adaptable, it is as happy in the Pauillac vineyards of Château Latour as it is in the high altitude vineyards of the Andes. So suited to oak and with a firm tannic backbone, it is very often utilised as part of a blend. Though Bordeaux is its natural home, it has spread through the wine world, finding notable homes in Stellenbosch, Coonawarra, Langhorne Creek and the Barossa Valley to name but a few."
