Galpin Peak Pinot Noir 2021, Bouchard Finlayson

£34.95 per bottle

About this wine

Bouchard Finlayson’s Galpin Peak is one of the Cape’s stand-out Pinot Noirs. The 2021 vintage shows fragrant and seductive red cherry perfume which underpins an iron-rich mineral edge.  Gently extracted fine tannins enrobe a delicate, yet vibrant structure. It is elegant and accessible, with refined oak and a layered, rewarding finish.

Ageing Potential: Best from 2023 through 2030.

Food Pairing: Pinot Noir always expresses itself best with good food. Avoid any sweetness or too much spice. Enjoy with slow braised pork belly, Emmental & potato gratin with heirloom carrot, or try the traditional pairing of smoked duck breast and black berry jus. Seared fresh tuna also combines delightfully with this wine.  In fact this wine is not shy to stand up handsomely against most dishes!

Alcohol: 13.19% ABV

Pinot Noir is unique as it displays both a delicacy and richness, but it is often quoted as depicting little varietal character of its own – rather expressing the terroir upon which it is grown. Hence, it carries the crown of being the most terroir-expressive of all grape varieties. The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley represents that unique combination of soil and climate that exists in only a handful of places where the exact balance provides the perfect expression of this elusive grape.

string(578) "If Cabernet Sauvignon is the king of wines then Pinot Noir is the wine of kings. So delicate, pure, feminine and graceful, it is arguably the finest variety in the world, responsible for the great wines of Champagne and Burgundy. Temperamental, yes, and difficult to cultivate, but can any other grape offer such dimensions of flavour or intellectual gratification? I would struggle to find one stronger! Summer berry compote flavours, with redcurrant and pink petal aromas, it is often pale in the glass, yet can offer depth and vigour simply unachievable from any other grape."
