Description
The Meerlust Rubicon 2016 is a blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The 2016 vintage shows great charm and drinkability even at this early stage, no doubt a result of the high Merlot and Cabernet Franc composition. Wonderful exotic aromas of plum, sandalwood and perfume, still with a touch of creamy vanilla. The palate is medium bodied with a forward dark fruit flavour of cassis and mulberry followed by a lithe tannic structure fleshed out with juicy fruit. The impression is one of litheness and grace rather than over-arching power.
Ageing potential: 15 – 30 years from vintage date under ideal cellar conditions
Wine Safari Score: 93+/100 Greg Sherwood MW “Revisiting this classic wine after extra time in bottle helps it shine ever so brighter. There is sleek textural elegance, plush sweet polished tannins and earthy red and black currant fruit notes. Seamlessly assembled, this is a triumph for the vintage and shows a very agreeable early drinking opulence combined with palate breadth and depth. The cream always rises to the top. Ready to enjoy now!”
