The Swartland is blessed with an abundance of old vine Chenin which is used as the backbone of the Mullineux Old Vines White Blend. Several small parcels of Mediterranean varieties (8% Clairette Blanche, 6% Grenache Blanc, 7% Viognier, 2% Semillon Gris, 2% Macabeo and 1% Verdelho) are added to the blend for complexity, balance and aromatic lift. The grapes come from vineyard parcels in different parts of the Swartland: the stony Shale and Schist based soils of the Kasteelberg, the decomposed Granite of the Paardeberg and the rolling, iron-rich hills west of Malmesbury. Fermentation is in barrel with indigenous yeasts and the wine is aged for 11 months in French oak barrels (20% new)
This fragrant wine has the characteristic floral nose with notes of orange blossom, apricots, mandarins and cardamom. The richly textured palate is balanced by a fresh, vibrant, acidity and flavours reminiscent of peach, grapefruit and hints of spice.
Ageing potential: Best served at 10 to 12 °C, this wine will show optimally when decanted in the first 3 years after bottling.
